2027, Loretta Lee will undertake the unique role of performing a musical documentary that honors the legendary jazz vocalist Billie Holiday (Lady Day). Billie Holiday is widely recognized as America’s greatest jazz vocalist and a noted civil rights activist. As a trailblazer in the Chicago jazz scene, her distinctive approach to interpreting songs captured a full range of emotions—sadness, happiness, loneliness, and more. Inspired by jazz instrumentalists, her captivating style pioneered innovative ways of phrasing and tempo. To this day, artists remain deeply influenced by her artistry and techniques.
Loretta Lee delivers an impressive impersonation of the late Billie Holiday. Her voice and phrasing display an astonishing likeness to this legendary icon. Through a selection of songs, she traces Billie Holiday’s musical journey to fame. Memorable songs performed will include: “Strange Fruit,” “hGod Bless The Child,” “Lady Sings The Blues,” “My Man,” and “All of Me,” among others. This extraordinary performance will recreate the sounds and memories of days gone by, though it will be presented for only one night.

BLACK HERITAGE LIVE INC. aims to present history in a musical format. For senior citizens, “Remembering Billie Holiday” promises to rekindle cherished memories and moments long forgotten. The musical documentary will also educate young adults about Billie Holiday’s movement and help them appreciate jazz and ensure her legacy endures.
Moreover, young audiences will gain insight into the hardships and struggles of the past, learn the importance of saying no to drugs, and be exposed to jazz and the accomplishments of Lady Day.

BLACK HERITAGE LIVE INC. is seeking financial support for
“THE LORETTA LEE’S HERITAGE FESTIVAL” August 2027
History will come alive for three consecutive days, with each day dedicated to a specific genre: BLUES, JAZZ, and R&B. The festival will feature the most popular Chicago musicians and vocalists, presenting incredible portrayals of legendary crooners and divas.
This will be a unique educational opportunity for youth and teens, while seniors will have a chance to revisit and celebrate memories from the past.
The citizens of Chicago will provide stage, sound, and entertainment at the Chicago Finest Marina, which can accommodate over 200 guests.
